Lululemon Athletica said on March 17 it had appointed former Levi Strauss & Co. chief executive Chip Bergh to its board with immediate effect, as the athletic apparel maker searches for a permanent CEO.

Bergh led Levi Strauss from 2011 to 2024, overseeing its repositioning and the company’s 2019 return to public markets. Before that, he spent 28 years at Procter & Gamble in brand and senior management roles. Bergh is also non-executive chair of HP Inc. and serves on the boards of e.l.f. Beauty and Pinterest. He will stand for election at the company’s 2026 annual meeting.

Bergh is the fifth independent director added in five years

The company also said director David Mussafer, who joined the board in 2005 and previously served as co-chair, will not seek re-election at the end of their current three-year term.

Another step in the never-ending proxy battle

The changes come as founder Chip Wilson presses a proxy campaign for board reforms, including annual director elections. Lululemon said it is continuing the search for a new CEO after Calvin McDonald stepped down in December 2025. Interim co-CEOs Meghan Frank and André Maestrini currently run the company.
