Poc Sweden has announced a partnership with the Volvo Car Group in the development and design of safety systems for cyclists. An initial R&D project will focus on communication between cars and cyclists, and the first results are due to be presented in the second half of 2014. Volvo sees this as a possible extension of its “Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection” technology that would provide the cyclist with confirmation that he or she has been seen by a car driver. Poc, a Swedish company best known for its high-tech snow helmets that was recently acquired by Black Diamond, is about to release a specific range of helmets, eyewear, apparel and accessories for road cycling called AVIP, which stands for Attention, Visibility, Interaction and Protection.
