Adidas joined Stella McCartney for this year’s Met Gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which took place in New York City on Sept. 13. The two brands, which have been working together for many years, supplied some spectacular pieces of apparel for the model Ella Emhoff, the former UCLA gymnast Nia Dennis and the 30 musicians of the Brooklyn United band, which marched along Fifth Avenue. McCartney, quoted in Adidas’ press release, believes this is “among the first and only times a major sportswear label has been on this red carpet.” Emhoff and Dennis’ clothes took inspiration from “this year’s Americana theme” and included “bespoke masks and embellished custom Adidas by Stella McCartney Earthlight trainers.” The sneakers contain Adidas’ recycled Primegreen yarn called and partly recycled midsoles. Dennis’ bodycon jumpsuit was said to be “highlighting and accentuating the feminine shapes […] with contrasting transparent and opaque materials” and enabling her to perform a gymnastics routine. She later donned a blue rhinestone net layer gown. Emhoff’s androgynous look featured high-waisted, drawstring trousers over an Adidas by Stella McCartney embellished bodysuit and “reimagined” Earthlight sneakers. Emhoff will be representing Adidas by Stella McCartney for the autumn/winter 2021/22 campaign. The band wore custom red, white and blue Adidas by Stella McCartney jumpsuits and Earthlight sneakers. McCartney believes that the overlap between performance and fashion “has already happened and will just continue evolving. The clothes you run in will look like those on the runway, and vice versa.”
