Lacoste has teamed up with Théo Curin, the French quadri-amputee swimmer, on a new collection that bears the athlete’s name. Curin made history last November by swimming Lake Titicaca, covering a distance of around 120km between Bolivia and Peru. The Théo Curin collection, which is Lacoste’s first designed by a handisport athlete, is, in fact, intended for both non-disabled and disabled people. The collaboration “confirms Lacoste’s desire to transcend previous limits in fashion and sport,” the brand said. Curin designed the collection in collaboration with Louise Trotter, Lacoste’s creative director. The athlete was involved in every step of the process, from the choice of products to the colors and adaptations. The new collection comprises a polo shirt, a sleeveless parka, a T-shirt, a sweatshirt and a cap. The T-shirts feature the athlete’s mottos: “Follow your dream,” “Keep smiling,” and “Your difference is a strength.” Particular attention was given to special details, such as buttons being replaced by snaps or the ties allowing the sleeves to be rolled up easily, conceived to make it easier also for people with disabilities to use these pieces. The creative agency BETC followed Curin for a year to translate this creative process into a 1.5-hour film, which retraces the athlete’s human adventure. The collection is available on Lacoste.com and at Lacoste stores.
