Collaborating with a Dutch artist, Piet Parra, Nike SB is supplying distinctive and functional uniforms for 19 athletes – many of them women - and four national federations competing in skateboarding at the Tokyo Olympics. Skateboarding is one of the five new sports added to the program for the event. Nike SB is sponsoring the national federations from the U.S., Japan, France and Brazil; and the colors of their uniforms reflect the local imagery. Made with 100 percent recycled polyester, the national uniforms are also inspired by other sports that are typical for each country: basketball for the U.S., baseball for Japan, tennis for France and football for Brazil. They also feature a different bird: an eagle for the U.S. team, a crane for the Japanese team, a rooster for the French team and a toucan for the Brazilian team. Replicas of the kits will be available for purchase from July 18 at specialty skate shops and from July 20 on Nike’s SNKRS app and at other selected retailers.
