Puma has announced a limited edition of its classic Suede silhouette that honors Tommie Smith, the sprinter who raised his fist toward the sky after winning a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics. The gesture, which was meant as a claim for justice and equality, has since become one of the most symbolic moments in sports’ history. Smith has been with Puma for more than 50 years, and his Puma Suede shoes were indeed next to him on the podium as he raised his fist in that iconic gesture. The collection only comprises 307 numbered pairs, each of which includes a certificate of authenticity signed by Tommie Smith, with the pair number appearing on both the shoe and the certificate. The shoes were made in Italy with premium leathers and suedes. None of them will see a retail release though, as all 307 pairs were reserved for Puma brand ambassadors, athletes and key partners.
