A Nike spokesman has confirmed that it is no longer sponsoring Neymar, the famous Brazilian forward player, ending a relationship that has lasted for 15 years. According to press reports, the 28-year-old football star is in discussions with Puma after failing to reach an agreement with the Swoosh on the extension of his contract. Neymar plays for the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) team and for the Brazilian national team, which are both sponsored by Nike. A week ago, the PSG was defeated by Bayern München in the European Champions’ League. A Brazilian newspaper, Folha de São Paulo, says that Neymar had signed an 11-year deal with Nike through 2022 for a total of $105 million, and other sources add that he also stood to receive hefty performance bonus. The football player’s full name is Neymar da Silva Santos. Two other teams for which Neymar has played, Santos of Brazil and FC Barcelona in Spain, are also sponsored by Nike. Neymar and two of his fellow players at the PSG, Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes, are currently recovering from Covid-19 infections on the island of Ibiza.
