Speedo has announced a sponsorship deal with Alice Tai, the British paralympic swimmer who competes in the SB8, SM8 and S8 categories. Tai, who is 22 years old, earned her first international success in 2014, when she won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven. In 2016, on the occasion of her Paralympic debut in Rio de Janeiro, she won a gold medal as a member of Britain’s 4x100 meters medley relay team, as well as an individual bronze in the S10 100 meters backstroke. After the Games in Rio, she was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to swimming. In 2019, she won seven gold medals at the World Para Swimming Championships in London. Last year, Tai was awarded The Sunday Times’ prestigious Disability Sportswoman of the Year prize, and was also named Athlete of the Year at the British Swimming Awards. She joins Ellie Simmonds, another British paralympic swimmer, in being supported by Speedo.
