Innovative Eyewear launched two photochromic variants of its Reebok Powered by Lucyd smartglasses on 11 December. The Octane Shift and Nitrous Shift frames feature light-adaptive lenses that adjust to changing indoor and outdoor conditions.

The new frames target athletes who train in gyms, play indoor sports like pickleball or move between environments. The photochromic lenses automatically adjust their tint based on light conditions—darkening when exposed to bright light (such as outdoors or near windows) and returning to a clear state in low light (like indoors or at night)—using light-sensitive molecules embedded in the lens material that react to UV rays or visible light intensity.

This eliminates the need to swap glasses, whilst open-ear Bluetooth audio lets users stay aware of their surroundings. Both frames use a redesigned audio system developed with audio engineers, delivering what the company calls its most advanced sound yet. The lenses darken in brighter light and clear indoors. Innovative Eyewear also introduced Lucyd Boosters—silicone add-ons that increase volume and clarity in loud settings such as CrossFit gyms or factory floors, whilst reducing sound leakage.

What they’re saying

CEO Harrison Gross: “Almost immediately after launching our Reebok smart eyewear collection for running and cycling, customers asked for a pair suited for the gym or court. We’re thrilled to deliver that and provide the perfect smart companion for America’s new favourite pastime—pickleball.”
