Galeries Lafayette is planning to open its first store in India, one of the fastest-growing luxury markets in the world, later this year. The new 8,300-sqm. flagship, scheduled for inauguration in early November, in partnership with Aditya Birla Group, will be located at the historic Turner Morrison and Voltas House buildings in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. This opening follows the exclusive partnership deal announced in 2022 between Galeries Lafayette and Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, part of Indian multinational Aditya Birla Group, to establish the brand’s presence in India through flagship stores and an omnichannel retail model.

The new Galeries Lafayette in Mumbai, spanning five floors, has been designed by London-based architectural firm Virgile + Partners. It will sell a portfolio of more than 250 international luxury and designer brands across fashion, beauty and accessories. Beyond retail, the flagship will offer concierge services and curated cultural programs, designed to deepen engagement and customer loyalty.

Galeries Lafayette with further Indian expansion plans

Galeries Lafayette reportedly has plans for a second Indian store in New Delhi.

India is still characterized by major inequalities and a massive divide between rich and poor, where luxury remains a niche consumption segment. Looking at trends, however, demand for luxury goods is on the rise, driven by a new generation of consumers with an appetite for high-end products. The few rich are getting even wealthier and branded goods are attracting an increasing share of the market. India’s luxury market is projected to reach US$85 billion by 2030, reminded Aditya Birla in a statement that commented on the launch.
