One leaves, another takes over. When XXL moves into new premises in Uppsala, north of Stockholm, it will move into Decathlon’s former premises now that the French giant is leaving Sweden. XXL, which has also faced challenges in the past year, is introducing its new department store concept with the move. The concept promises a more modern and efficient shopping experience, according to the company, where customers will quickly be able to access the entire range of sports and outdoor items instead of wandering around the entire department store as in large IKEA stores.

XXL says visitors should expect a major update, with all departments having undergone changes to create a new experience. The assortment will remain roughly the same, but the volume of goods will be reduced to improve customer flow through the store and provide a better overview of the entire range. The more compact store will also increase staff availability, providing better customer service and more attention.

The new concept will be incorporated into all the chain’s stores step by step.

In addition, the workshop will take up more space and become a more important part of the customer offer in the future. Here, customers can get help servicing and repairing equipment, regardless of where it was purchased. XXL also promises to have the latest technology available to help customers find the best running shoe for their feet, as well as being able to offer customization of alpine boots.

“Uppsala is a very important location for us, and we have been here since November 2012, so it feels great to be able to offer this more modern store to our customers and employees here. We are very excited to fill the new premises with employees and customers finally,” says Anders Lindblom, Head of Sweden at XXL.
