Introducing The Marathumb Challenge, a challenge app designed to turn scrolling into steps, Saucony aims to help users put down their phones and engage in physical activity. Partnering with HarrisX, a survey revealed that the average consumer scrolls through the equivalent of three marathons on their phone each year, covering a distance of 125.5 kilometers. The study also highlighted that 60 percent of Americans believe phone usage is increasing year by year. In response, Saucony has crafted a simple alternative: Ditch the phone and lace up your shoes with the Marathumb Challenge.

The Marathumb Challenge is an app that tracks the distance a user scrolls on their phone and compares it with the number of steps taken each day. If the user moves more than they scroll, Saucony rewards them with branded merchandise. Users can monitor their progress, view past achievements, and motivate others by sharing their challenges on social media platforms.

“Opportunity to challenge consumers”

“With Americans scrolling the distance of three marathons a year on their smartphones, we’ve identified a fun and creative opportunity to challenge consumers to move their feet more than their feed,” Rob Griffiths, Saucony Brand President, commented. “The launch of the Marathumb Challenge underscores Saucony’s belief in the transformational power of movement, and we look forward to continuing to encourage everyone to live a better life by shifting the balance between screen time and step time.”
