Online sales in Spain for the first nine months of 2023 rose by 25.1 percent year-on-year, from €2.654 to €3.320 billion, according to Palco23, which cites the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC).
The sports sector accounted for €1.792 billion, or 54 percent, of the nine-month total for 2023 and enjoyed a year-on-year rise of 24 percent. For the sector as a whole, Spain was a net exporter via the Internet during the period, with a trade balance in revenues of €988.8 million in exports (29.7% of the total) vs. €539 million in imports (16.3%). The figure for sporting and recreational activities transacted online was €420.9 million, up 36.6 percent year-on-year. Domestic transactions amounted to €268.3 million.
Sports entertainment (shows) is mixed in with artistic and recreational varieties. The three together generated €2.255 billion, vs. €1.727 billion the previous year. Here, domestic transactions covered €1.228 billion, or a bit more than half.
Sporting goods and toys generated €674 million, up year-on-year by a comparatively low percentage of 8.9, with domestic transactions generating a bit less than €300 million.
Spain’s general e-commerce generated €21.8 billion in the third quarter of 2023, up 15.2 percent from Q3 2022. The nine-month figure was €61.470 billion, up 16.5 percent year over year.
