England’s Rugby Football Union (RFU) has announced its intention to launch a bid to host the Women’s World Cup in 2025, provided it secures sufficient private and public funding by next January. The RFU hosted the regular World Cup in 2010 and won it in 2014, and since then, the number of registered female players has grown from 13,000 to 40,000, with an additional 80,000 girls playing in schools, colleges and universities. The RFU’s Red Roses is the highest-ranking women’s team in the world.
