The latest edition of the European OutDoor show, held in Friedrichshafen from Sunday June 18 through Wednesday June 21, went relatively well, with only a small dip in the number of visitors in spite of its earlier dates. It will again be held on Lake Constance next June, but it may or may not change venue from 2019 on. The members of the European Outdoor Group will make a decision at the Ispo show in Munich next January. In the next six months, the organizers of trade shows in Munich and other European cities will be given a chance to respond to the recommendations made in a comprehensive study of the role and format of the OutDoor show that was presented to to the association's members on the eve of the OutDoor show. Nevertheless, all the major players in the outdoor industry remained loyal to the fair. The only major exception this time was Oberalp, which was present at the fair only with its Wild Country brand. The Italian group, which also owns Salewa, Dynafit, and Pomoca, plans to stay out of the next Ispo as well, preferring to invest instead on a big international convention. More on this and other outdoor-related issues, including the latest figures on the European outdoor market, in our OutDoor Industry Compass.
