Messe München, the organizer of the ISPO trade shows, says it lost about €400 million in revenues over the past two years because of the Covid pandemic, but it is optimistic about this year, which will see 54 directly managed events being held inside and outside Germany, particularly in the second half, and a variety of guest events managed by third parties. This will include the new format of ISPO Munich, which will open the winter season for the first time at the end of November.
According to preliminary figures, Messe München booked an Ebitda loss of €49.6 million in 2021, in spite of restructuring measures and although its revenues increased to €122.5 million from €93.6 million in the prior year. Globally, Messe München is expected to report consolidated sales of €154.5 million for the past year, after holding 125 own and guest events internationally.
Out of them, only five own in-person events and 17 online events were held in Munich including ISPO Munich Online, which attracted about 26,000 attendees from 115 countries. An additional 82 guest events were held in Munich.
