Vans and Truth, the U.S.-based anti-smoking campaign produced and funded by the American Legacy Foundation, have partnered with Kevin Lyons to create a limited-edition Vans shoe. In December the Brooklyn-based graphic artist painted a mural in Raleigh, North Carolina, an area of the country with reportedly above average tobacco usage rates. The mural showed monsters and included empowering words submitted by teenagers across the U.S. in support of Truth's “Finish It” campaign against smoking. The artwork has then been incorporated into the limited-edition Vans shoe. The Kevin Lyons-designed Vans shoes retail for $60 and are available in men's, women's and boy's sizes at all Vans, Journeys and Journeys Underground stores in the U.S. Lyons' cartoon “monsters” shout out phrases like “Let's Make History!” and “We are that generation” to encourage others to stop smoking, and can now be seen on the feet wearing the new Vans shoes. Truth's “Finish It” campaign was launched in August 2014 to make the new generations the ones that will end tobacco use.
