Colorado-based VF Corporation has launched its new distribution center in Ontario, California, employing approximately 550 people during peak periods. The new 111,500 sqm facility is VF’s largest and most efficient distribution center within the group’s worldwide network of 46 distribution centers. The center’s annual shipping capacity of 76 million units will initially serve Vans and The North Face, possibly adding other VF brands. The center is digitally focused and has a shipping capacity of 485,000 units per day – double the processing capacity and efficiency of a traditional distribution center - and offers next-day e-commerce fulfillment to customers in California, Nevada, Arizona and Southern Utah.

The new center was designed to support VF’s sustainability commitments, with features and innovative systems that help reduce environmental impact, including an estimated 56 percent annual energy cost savings through energy-efficient lighting, controls and submetering, an overall 48 percent recycled content in building materials, diversion 98 percent of construction waste from landfills and planning for daylighting and views in regularly used areas of the building. The building’s design and construction were awarded LEED Gold certification. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is the world’s most widely used green building rating system. The building is well on its way to achieving WELL Gold certification. This performance-based standard focused on promoting health and well-being is administered by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI).
