The International Olympic Committee and Agence française de développement have allocated over €1 million to 11 organisations across Lao PDR, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam through the Southeast Asia Sport and Youth Crime Prevention Initiative.
The grants were awarded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Agence française de développement (AFD) through the new Southeast Asia Sport and Youth Crime Prevention (SYCP) Initiative, initiated by the two organizations.
The announcement was made at the inaugural SYCP Conference in Bangkok, which took place ahead of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (Dec. 9-20, 2025). The conference was convened by the IOC and Agence française de développement (AFD), in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), with the theme “Building Safer and More Resilient Communities Through Sport.”
The SYCP Initiative, launched earlier this year and running until 2027, aims to harness the power of sport to prevent youth crime, support rehabilitation and strengthen social inclusion. The implementation of the program is supported by a consortium coordinated by the Alliance of Sport in Criminal Justice (AoS). The initiative will also engage national networks of sport and criminal justice stakeholders in Lao PDR, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The SYCP Initiative aligns with the IOC’s Olympism365 strategy, which promotes the role of sport as an enabler of sustainable development.
The list of the 11 organizations that have been selected for SYCP funding can be viewed on the IOC website.
