French sporting goods retailer Decathlon is planning to accelerate investments in India to ramp up production and expand its retail presence. Decathlon entered the Indian market in 2009 and now operates 129 stores in the country. Decathlon CEO, Barbara Martin, called India one of the company’s “most important” global markets, the PTI news agency reported. India is currently among Decathlon’s top ten global markets and is growing “twice the rate” of others, said Martin, who also stressed the evolution of the sports culture and the growing engagement in different kinds of sports in the country, especially among the middle class. In addition to expanding its retail presence, Decathlon plans to increase the local sourcing to 85 percent in the next two years, says the report.
