In September, to meet what it calls the demands of “urban mobility,” Decathlon will be inaugurating 17 apprentice training centers (CFA) for bicycle repair and sales throughout France. Established in partnership with the AFPA – which began certifying workers in 1949 to help rebuild France after the Second World War and has since become the national agency for adult training – Decathlon’s centers will be delivering, on the government’s behalf, a professional certificate in the sale and repair of sporting goods. This work-study program (75 percent work, 25 percent study) provides an employment contract with Decathlon, which will be recruiting through schools, clubs, France’s unemployment office and other means. Details are available at cfa.decathlon.fr. According to the project head at Decathlon’s personnel department, Hélène Lacroix, the objective is to have 200 trainees in 2022.
