The online shopping platform Zalando has introduced a new tool allowing customers to receive size recommendations based on their body measurements. Taking two photos with a smartphone in tight-fitting clothes is enough to determine body measurements and help customers find the right fit for their next purchase. This is an industry first, as no comparable platform currently offers such a function.
The function is available immediately in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It can be used for women’s tops, including jumpsuits, jackets, coats and dresses. It is particularly difficult to find the right size in this category. In the future, the function will also be rolled out in other categories and markets.
Through the work of its in-house Size & Fit Team, Zalando has already been able to reduce size-related returns by 10 percent compared to items without size advice. The size recommendations based on individual body measurements are based on both Zalando’s technology and that of Fision, a Swiss app developer for mobile body measurements that Zalando acquired in 2020.
