On Feb. 6, Milano Cortina 2026 will be celebrating two years to go to the opening of its Olympic Winter Games. This milestone comes shortly after the Olympic Movement celebrated the centennial of the Olympic Winter Games, whose first edition was held in 1924 in the French Alpine town of Chamonix.

In the coming days, a series of sporting and cultural activities will unfold to engage Italy’s youth and help shape the next edition of the Winter Games. These will include the country’s first “Winter Games Week.”

As part of the GEN26 educational program, created by the Milano Cortina 2026 Organizing Committee, and to mark two years to go, a Winter Games Week will be held until Feb. 9. Developed jointly by the Organizing Committee and the Italian Ministry of Education, with support from Italy’s National Olympic and Paralympic Committees, the program offers young people an opportunity to participate in activities that emphasize the educational value of sport.

All Italian regions will be taking part through their schools and youth groups at all levels. With more than 700 entities subscribing, the initiative is expected to reach more than 220,000 young people throughout the week. To date, 440,000 young people from all 20 Italian regions have been involved in the overall GEN26 initiative.

On Feb. 6, exactly two years before the start of the Milano Cortina 2026 Games, a winter sports themed exhibition will open at Trent’s Le Gallerie history museum, in one of the host regions of the Games. “Records” – the first of three immersive exhibitions in a three-year “Interconnecting Rings” project – will focus on the story of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games through the evolution of the sport disciplines. The exhibition was created in collaboration with Milano Cortina 2026 and with the support of the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.

The Milano Cortina 2026 organizers will be sharing all of their activities through their digital channels – Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn – over the coming days. The next edition of the Olympic Winter Games is scheduled for Feb. 6-22, 2026. The next Paralympic Winter Games will be held on March 6–15, 2026.
