The number of golf federation members in Spain reached nearly 300,000 (298,959) in 2023, 1.8 percent more than the previous year, of which 297,378 amateurs and 1,581 professionals, according to figures from the Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG).
Golf in Spain has experienced five years of consecutive growth, achieving a combined 9.8 percent increase over the five years. This follows nine years of consecutive decline from 2010 to 2018. Looking at the more extended period, in 1990, there were only 45,000 registered golf players in Spain. The peak was reached in 2010, with 338.588 federated members.
In absolute terms, Madrid reached 92,693 federated members in 2023, representing 31 percent of the total, followed by Andalusia with 50,830 (17 percent) and Catalonia with 29,232 (9.8 percent). In terms of trend dynamics, Madrid saw the highest increase in federated members in 2023 (+2.6 percent), followed by Andalusia (+2.2 percent) and the Valencian Community (+4.1 percent).
Women (82,077) accounted for 27.6 percent of Spain’s golf federated members in 2023, with an increase of 577 units from the previous year. More than half (47,428) were over 50 years of age.
