Peloton is in the final testing stages of a new application that explores the intersection of fitness and gaming, the company said in a press release. The new game, called “Lanebreak,” is designed to “provide a greater variety of workout options to members beyond instructor-led classes,” said David Packles, senior director of product management at the New York City-based fitness platform.

In the video game, Peloton members must overcome obstacles synchronized to the beat of music. Users can change their cadence and resistance, adjust the difficulty, music and length of the course, control the on-screen rolling wheel and earn points for picking up objects along the way, with participants in the lanes with the highest resistance earning the most points. There are different levels to choose from, based on specific playlists, workout types and durations, with each level having a difficulty level from beginner to expert.

Lanebreak is the result of long-term development based largely on a series of mini-games that Peloton has tested in guided sessions. According to the company, the next phase focuses on gathering feedback on a large scale and using those insights to further improve the experience leading up to the full launch in the winter. To that end, Peloton is currently testing an early version of the game. Peloton’s user community currently includes more than 5.4 million members.
