New guidelines have been released by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the digital media guidelines for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Gangwon 2024. With the updated guidelines, athletes now have more opportunities to share their Olympic experiences with fans on social media and other platforms.
The guidelines have been formulated based on feedback from athletes who participated in previous Olympic Games. The aim is to enable all athletes to easily share their experiences while safeguarding the rights of media right holders.
So, what exactly are the athletes allowed to do? On their personal social media accounts, they can broadcast audio and video recordings up to two minutes per post from:
- The Opening and Closing Ceremonies and/or at the Champions Park
- The Olympic Village
- Competition venues up to one hour before the start of their competition and after they have left the mixed zone/doping control station
- Their training venues and practice areas.
The new guidelines will apply to all accredited athletes during the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris and will be in effect from the opening of the Olympic Village on July 18 until its closure on Aug. 13.
Separate guidelines for non-athletes
Additionally, the IOC announces the publication of media guideline for non-athletes. Everyone who is accredited, including coaches, technical staff, entourage members, team officials, volunteers, personnel of National Olympic Committees, International Federations or the Organizing Committee, and other team personnel participating in the Games, must adhere to more traditional guidelines.
