A mixed-gender tennis league founded in 1974 is returning:  not to club venues but to major-market arenas, with augmented reality broadcast tech and Emmy-winning production values. Whether entertainment-led packaging can build a durable new fanbase for team tennis is the question the December launch will begin to answer.

World Team Tennis, the mixed-gender team tennis league originally founded by Billie Jean King and others in 1974, will relaunch in December 2026. The league will return in a new primetime format that combines elite tennis with entertainment, culture and local pride.

The first matches will play on December 2 at the Barclays Center in New York City. There will then be a home and away competition featuring city-based teams and a new format staged across major-market arenas, to deliver a big-event atmosphere. On the court, the new match format will feature four singles sets — two men’s and two women’s — and a mixed doubles Supertiebreaker.

As part of this reimagined vision, and to attract a new generation of fans, World Team Tennis is partnering with Hawk-Eye Innovations, a Sony Group Company, to enhance the live broadcast experience with real-time augmented reality ball tracking and advanced data visualization. The coverage will be executive produced by Emmy-Award winner Michael Davies and Embassy Row, a television and digial production company part of Sony Pictures Television.

Additional announcements surrounding players, teams, venues, partnerships, and fan experiences will be unveiled in the coming months leading up to WTT’s league launch in December 2026. To know more, visit wtt.com.
