The Adidas brand took advantage of virtual reality technology to enable customers to try on boots in a virtual Champions League game between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. For three days earlier this month, at the renovated Adidas flagship store in Paris, customers wearing VR goggles and sensors on their feet were virtually taken into the changing room of the Real Madrid team to hear a pep talk from Zinedine Zidane. They could then head into the Allianz Arena to virtually take part in the game, taking passes, free kicks, penalties and any other shots. The VR installation and testing zone was then moved on to the Adidas Football store in Les Halles area, where it will be available until Jan. 12. The users stand on synthetic grass as they wear the goggles and try out the boots, to make the experience all the more immersive and realistic. The Adidas VR Experience is one of the many initiatives taken by retailers in recent years to create experiences in their stores, as a means of generating more traffic at their physical outlets. This particular installation allows users to capture their experience, and to share it instantly on social media.
