Aston Villa is looking into options to cut its partnership with kit supplier Castore short, according to reports by The Telegraph, after players complained about the sportswear brand’s jerseys retaining sweat and affecting performance. Aston Villa and Castore debuted their partnership in the 2022/23 season when Castore succeeded Kappa as Aston Villa’s jersey sponsor in a new multi-year deal. Players reportedly complained that their jerseys became soaked with sweat and too heavy too quickly during matchday action. Castore had responded that it was working with the club to address this issue but according to The Telegraph, Aston Villa and Castore “are expected to agree to an early termination of their contract” due to this so-called “wet-look” issue. Castore, the sportswear brand backed by tennis star Andy Murray, was recently named the second fastest-growing private company in Britain, according to The Sunday Times Hundred 2023 rankings, behind recruitment firm Join Talent. Earlier this year, Castore signed its first deal with a national football team, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).
