The Running Event (TRE), North America’s leading run specialty trade show, is heading to San Antonio this December with a renewed focus on partnerships that foster inclusion, mentorship and collaboration throughout the running and outdoor industries.
Slated for Dec. 2-4, TRE and its returning and new partners will be leading programs, mentorship initiatives and community activations designed to elevate representation and collaboration.
Key partnerships
The Running Industry Diversity Coalition (RIDC), celebrating five years at TRE, will host The CommUnity Run, The Cookout and educational sessions focused on equity and visibility for underrepresented communities. Rising Hearts, an Indigenous-led organisation, will bring a session on “Building Kinship,” emphasizing cultural awareness and belonging in sports. The Magic Boost, a mentorship and storytelling program, will empower diverse creators to amplify voices in running and outdoor spaces.
For the sporting goods industry, TRE’s emphasis on diversity and collaboration reflects a broader trend: consumers increasingly expect brands and events to champion inclusion and social impact. These initiatives not only strengthen community ties but also influence purchasing decisions and brand loyalty in a competitive market.
The bottom line
As specialty retail faces pressure from e-commerce and big-box competitors, events like TRE are doubling down on community-driven strategies to keep local stores relevant and resilient.
