Almost all of the 1.2 million pieces of the sports equipment used during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games are being given a second life, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has revealed. Additional assets such as uniforms, furniture and technological equipment will also have a second life. This means that 90 percent of the six million pieces of sports equipment and other assets will be reused, said the IOC.

Paris 2024 were the first Games fully aligned with the Olympic Agenda 2020, a reform that requires organizers to minimize the Games’ footprint, build only where this provides a benefit for long-term community use, and deliver long-term social and economic benefits for the hosts.

As part of the Paris 2024 commitment to a circular economy, organizers had rented around 75 percent of the 1.2 million pieces of sports equipment used overall. The remaining 300,000 pieces, which were purchased, are now being donated to the French sports movement, to help local communities and promote physical activity across France.
