Der Spiegel reports that Adidas has agreed to pay €1 billion for a new ten-year partnership with Real Madrid, based on the Football Leaks file. Earlier this year it had been reported that Under Armour was trying to replace the three stripes as the Spanish club's partner. According to the report in the German news magazine, Adidas is to pay an annual sum of about €70 million, and a commission of 22.5 percent on all of the Adidas-branded merchandise for Real Madrid, worth an estimated €30 million per year. The agreement is also said to include performance-based incentives, amounting to €2.5 million for another national title, which would rise to €3.5 million from 2020. The 2016 Champions League winner would receive a further €5 million for another such title, or €7 million from 2020. Adidas has been outfitting Real Madrid players since 1998. Adidas earlier agreed to pay £75 million (€87.8m-$97.6m) per year for a ten-year partnership with Manchester United, while Nike reportedly agreed to pay at least €105 million per year for an extension of its partnership with the Barcelona football club.
