The International Olympic Committee (IOC) released the official program for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics on April 9. Following that announcement, the UCI confirmed that cycling will be the third-biggest sport by the number of participants and of titles awarded.

The various cycling events on the program will involve 514 athletes in total, competing for 22 Olympic titles in five cycling disciplines: road, track, mountain bike, BMX Racing and BMX Freestyle. A total of 180 athletes will compete in road events (road race and time trial), 190 in track (team sprint, sprint, keirin, team pursuit, omnium and Madison), 72 in mountain bike events (cross-country olympic), 48 in BMX Racing, and 24 in BMX Freestyle (Park).

The UCI points out also that, just as at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the number of women and men participating in cycling events will be the same: 257 of each gender. Gender parity will also be respected within each discipline on the program, said the UCI.
