Katja Burkert

Katja Burkert, head of the IT department at Intersport Deutschland eG, will be appointed to the management board of Intersport Digital GmbH, the buying’s digital unit that develops and successfully implements the digital and data-driven business models as part of the omnichannel strategy, on Jan. 1, 2023. With this step, Intersport Germany also initiates the succession of the current managing director Carsten Schmitz. This process already started at the beginning of the year at Schmitz’s own request to leave the company. Before that, he will continue to implement the omnichannel and digitization strategy together with Burkert until April 2023.

Burkert joined Intersport Germany at the beginning of July 2021 and will continue to push the consistent path of digitization of the entire Intersport value chain. In doing so, she is primarily responsible for the best possible implementation of the digital platform as well as customer and retailer services. Above all, she will continue to contribute her experience in building digital architectures from her previous areas of activity and accelerate end-to-end thinking. Prior to Intersport, Burkert worked for the German retail company Breuninger as head of software engineering since 2017 and gained deep experience with applications in the textile, shoe and sports retail. Before that, she worked at Daimler AG in various IT roles as application manager, enterprise architect-retail and lead enterprise architect. She has extensive knowledge in future-oriented architectures, software development and digital product and organizational development.
