Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, who has been serving as France’s Ministry of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games since May 2022, now has additional responsibilities for national education and youth in what French newspaper Le Monde has called a “superministry.”
The appointment follows the designation of Gabriel Attal as France’s new Prime Minister on Jan. 9, 2024, to replace Élisabeth Borne, and the creation of a new cabinet. The so-called “superminister” will have to handle the expanded role only six months until the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, stresses the newspaper. Oudéa-Castera is now ranked fifth in the protocol order and is the first woman in this hierarchy.
Oudéa-Castéra is a former professional tennis player. She reached the singles semi-finals at the 1993 US Open, 1994 French Open and 1994 Wimbledon Championships. She is also an experienced leader and businesswoman. She previously served as director of the French Tennis Federation (FFT) from 2021 to 2022. Prior to that, she was the Group Chief Customer, Digital and Marketing Officer at Carrefour and held several roles within insurance group AXA, including Chief Mmarketing and Digital Officer and Head of Group Strategic Planning, among others.
The French capital city will host the XXXIII Olympiad, commonly known as Paris 2024, from July 26 to Aug. 11, followed by the 2024 Summer Paralympics from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8.
