Lina Carlos de Vergara has joined the National Football League (NFL) to lead the league’s expansion efforts in Spain, bringing seven years of experience building DAZN’s Spanish operations from launch to market leadership.

The appointment marks the NFL’s push to establish deeper roots in Spain beyond occasional games and viewing events, with a dual focus on building fan communities and expanding grassroots flag football programmes. Carlos de Vergara’s track record growing a streaming platform in a market long dominated by traditional broadcasters could prove crucial as the league seeks to cut through Spain’s crowded sports landscape.

At DAZN Spain, Carlos de Vergara served as Vice President of Communications, joining the platform in 2019 when it was virtually unknown in the Spanish market. Her tenure coincided with DAZN’s transformation from an unproven streaming concept into one of Europe’s major sports rights holders, competing directly with established television operators.

Carlos de Vergara will work alongside the NFL’s international team including Rafael de los Santos Navarro, Henry Hodgson, Lucy Roberts Hartley, Anthea Gregory, and Vicki Marrano. Her immediate focus includes expanding the league’s Spanish fan base and promoting flag football initiatives that introduce American football fundamentals without requiring full contact equipment.

Before DAZN, she spent over seven years at Atlético de Madrid in communication and marketing roles, including Sponsorship Activation Director, and held positions at Bwin as Brand Communication Manager and Red Bull as National Communication Manager.
