A media and broadcast career spanning Eurosport and Meta positions Hutton to advance the PTO’s push for diversified commercial revenue — the core strategic ambition behind the Triathlon World Tour, set to launch in 2027.

The Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) has announced Peter Hutton as its new Chairman on an interim basis as Chris Kermode steps down. Kermode joined the PTO Board in July 2020 and became Chairman in 2022.

Peter Hutton, the former Meta Head of Sport and Eurosport CEO, has been a member of the PTO Board since December 2020. He brings commercial, broadcast and digital expertise, combined with a strong insight into the rapidly evolving social environment, said the PTO in a statement.

Earlier this year, the PTO acquired a majority stake in Challenge Family from Y11 Sport & Media. In December, the PTO and World Triathlon unveiled the joint creation of the Triathlon World Tour. Set to launch in 2027, the Triathlon World Tour will combine the existing T100 Triathlon World Tour, the World Triathlon Championship Series, and World Triathlon Cups.

On Hutton’s appointment, Sam Renouf, CEO of the PTO, said “As we prepare for the industry-changing launch of the Triathlon World Tour, we are delighted to welcome Peter as chairman. Much of the PTO’s commercial appeal to partners and investors stems from pioneering a new model for professional sport – one that leverages emerging media to build a diversified business, rather than relying solely on traditional media rights. Peter’s leadership in these areas makes him an invaluable guide as we pursue our ambitions to grow the sport.”

The PTO is a sports body that is co-owned by its professional athletes. Its T100 Triathlon World Tour, designated by World Triathlon as the “official World Championship for long distance triathlon,” was introduced in January 2024. This is part of a 12-year strategic partnership with the sport’s international governing body to develop the sport.
