Pou Sheng International, one of the two leading Chinese retailers of sports apparel and footwear, saw its sales increase by 23.9 percent to $580.5 million for the first three months of the year. The month of March alone yielded a sales increase of 16.7 percent to $197.2 million. Several Chinese and international sports brands have been reporting ample sales increases starting around the second half of last year and the early numbers for this year appear to firm up the trend of a vigorous upturn for some of the leading market players. Pou Sheng's own sales advanced by 11.4 percent to nearly $1,981 million last year, including a rise of 15.4 percent in retail sales. The majority of Pou Sheng's shares are held by Yue Yuen Industrial Holdings, the leading manufacturer of sports and outdoor footwear.
