Puma has made significant strides in its sustainability efforts, achieving remarkable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and surpassing climate targets well ahead of their own schedule. Anne-Laure Descours, Chief Sourcing Officer at Puma, expressed pride in the company’s sustainability journey, particularly in reducing greenhouse gases in 2023. She reaffirmed Puma’s commitment to its “Forever. Better. sustainability strategy” and “10for25 targets”.

Puma’s dedication to sustainability is evident in its achievements. With an 85 percent reduction in own emissions and a 65 percent reduction in supply chain emissions relative to sales, Puma met its first science-based greenhouse gas reduction target in 2023, seven years ahead of schedule. The company’s new climate goals, endorsed by the “Science Based Targets Initiative,” aim to further reduce emissions in line with keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius. By 2030, Puma aims to decrease absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 90 percent compared to 2017 levels.

In addition to its climate ambitions, Puma has made progress on other sustainability targets, achieving two out of ten ahead of schedule. The company eliminated plastic carrier bags from its owned and operated stores and conducted research on biodegradable plastic options, meeting its plastics and the oceans target. Puma’s Re:Suede experiment, converting an experimental version of its classic Suede sneaker into compost, demonstrated its commitment to sustainable materials.

Puma also reached its Human Rights target by training over 220,000 factory workers on women’s empowerment and mapping subcontractors and Tier 2 suppliers for human rights risks. Furthermore, Puma employees volunteered over 57,000 community engagement hours.

Looking ahead, Puma aims to scale up the use of recycled materials and launch replica football jerseys made using its Re:Fibre recycling technology, focusing on polyester textile waste as the primary material source. With these initiatives, Puma continues to lead the charge toward a more sustainable future.
