The Intersport warehouse in Heilbronn, Germany, has reached its limits due to years of growth in product ranges, unit numbers, complexity and stock turnover. A massive investment in floor space and logistics software and hardware has significantly increased the purchasing community’s warehouse size: In addition to the existing building, a new 10,000 sqm logistics structure and a 36 m high automated small parts warehouse were built. The total storage area of the Intersport warehouse grew to 37,000 sqm.

For the expansion and technological update, the retail company relied on the German technology expert Körber. From the planning phase to finalization, Körber was responsible for the practical implementation of a fully automated warehouse that can meet the growing demand for intelligent warehouse capacity in the coming years. In the future, automatically erected shipping cartons will be filled by a conveyor system with several crossovers, controlled by a fully robotized goods inwards system. The new warehouse will be able to ship up to 10,000 parcels per day.
