In collaboration with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine and Conceptkicks, Timberland has unveiled an innovative design experience that blends the physical and virtual worlds. The partnership centers on Timberland Construct: 10061, which invites shoe lovers to immerse themselves in the universe of design, creation and innovation via a playable experience in Fortnite.
Elements of the multi-stakeholder project include a Timberland Design Lab and Maker Space in Fortnite, a Meta Design Workshop, Timberland Parkour Trails, a Metaboot in AR and a Prototype Boot in AR. Players can explore the biomes of the Fortnite island, where they discover three custom Metaboots. The Construct: 10061 Fortnite will open during Milan Design Week at Timberland’s flagship store, Orefici11, where guests can view physical prototypes, experience live gameplay and be there in real-time as another Metaboot is created in Fortnite. The brand has hired Ali “SypherPK” Hassan, who started making videos in 6th grade and has risen to become one of the most well-known and followed Fortnite players/creators worldwide.
Launched in 2018, Construct: 10061 brings together the best footwear innovators from around the world to rethink and push the boundaries of footwear. For S22, Construct is entering the metaverse for the first time. “Timberland was built on a foundation of footwear innovation; our partnership with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine allows us to explore new dimensions as we envision the future of bootmaking and boot culture,” said Drieke Leenknegt, chief marketing officer of Timberland.
