In his address to Major League Baseball (MLB) club owners on May 23, Commissioner Rob Manfred said, according to The Athletic, that Nike had long acknowledged the trouble with this year’s uniforms. The uniforms were manufactured to Nike’s specifications by Fanatics, and the trouble, as we reported in April, includes illegible player names, “moisture-related aesthetic color differences,” and mismatched greys.

“I think they [Nike] appropriately took responsibility for the issues with respect to the new uniforms and the rollout of those uniforms,” Manfred reportedly told the owners, adding: “It’s the first time the owners had heard this directly from Nike. They’ve been consistent with me about taking responsibility.”

Nike has apparently also “reiterated for the owners” its “commitment” to getting the uniforms right and gone through with them its plans to remedy the lettering, pant customization, color differences, sweat stains, the zippers and so forth – perhaps even the belt loops.

As we also reported, word of this spread earlier this month through a memo dispatched by the MLB Players Association and seen by The Athletic and others.
