Sport and fashion collaborations are emerging rapidly. One of the most recent ones is the one between the British sportswear brand Umbro and the Japanese label Children of the Discordance. The two brands have created a collection of seven garments that really stand out and want to highlight the Umbro’s 1990s silhouettes. Founded by Hideaki Shikama in 2011, Children of the Discordance is known for creating sophisticated upcycled garments that draw on Shikama’s personal collection, along with archival vintage pieces from around the world.
Last football season, the two brands collaborated to create some of the most talked-about kits, including a retro-inspired home shirt for West Ham United and a special Bournemouth jersey made in collaboration with Michael B.Jordan.
Shikama’s latest collection takes inspiration from Umbro’s 1990s soccer apparel line. Its redesigned logo reads “Children of the Discordance,” and it emphasizes split tops and bottoms that combine technical fabrics and all-over prints with denim, cable-knit sweaters and patchwork designs.
Umbro, together with brands like Eckō, Ed Hardy and Rocawear, is owned by Iconix Brand Group. The group’s revenue was $117.9 million in 2023.
