Jordan Brand is launching District 23, described as “an unprecedented elevation of Paris’ diverse 18th arrondissement into a global sport and cultural hub.” The initiative celebrates the diasporic cultures and international youth that also characterize basketball.
District 23, under the creative direction of Youssouf Fofana, will consist of a six-week program inside and around the historic former Tati Barbès department store. Located in the heart of Paris’ 18th arrondissement and walking distance from Montmartre, the former department store has been renovated into a space for creativity and community.
Jordan will host an immersive “summer school” for young creatives and provide youth access to basketball courts and other sports spaces. In addition, an art exhibit on diasporic communities from across Africa, Asia and Latin America will be on display.
The location has a deeper significance. Founded by Jules Ouaki in 1948, the Tati department chain transformed the fashion industry with its low-cost textiles. Tati debuted in Paris with its Barbès flagship store, a district home to immigrant communities from diverse backgrounds.
