After several challenging years, 2025 recorded a shift in momentum for triathlon in Great Britain. According to the 2025 Triathlon Participation Analysis Report, released by the Triathlon Industry Alliance (TIA), there were more than 120,000 active racing triathletes last year in the country, marking a return to growth following a decline in participation in 2024.

Despite the progress, participation levels are still approximately 28,000 athletes below the pre-pandemic peak in 2019. The report describes the current situation as “a new normal,” considering that the event ecosystem has undergone significant adjustment, including acquisitions, portfolio rationalization, and strategic consolidation among organizers. “The landscape is leaner and arguably more resilient – but different,” argues the TIA.

Organizers are encouragingly reporting strong early registrations for the 2026 season, driven by a noticeable uplift among new and younger participants. This cohort is also important for the long-term sustainability of the sport.

Looking forward, the TIA identifies the following priorities: converting runners into multisport participants, engaging younger age groups, increasing female participation, and strengthening the charity and fundraising dimension of triathlon for a broader community impact.
