Deckers Brands, owner of a portfolio of brands including Ugg, Hoka, Teva, Sanuk and Koolaburra, has published its Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report called Creating Change for the 2023 financial year. The report builds on the progress the company has made towards its sustainable development goals in the areas of materials, waste, water, climate and clean energy, chemistry and consumer safety, human rights, gender equality, quality education and reduced inequalities.
“This is a milestone year for Deckers: our 50th anniversary,” said Dave Powers, CEO and President of Deckers Brands. “For the past five decades, taking care of our people, our communities and our environment has been an integral part of Deckers’ ethos. ESG has played a key role in enhancing our culture and has contributed, and continues to contribute, to our historical and ongoing success.”
The highlights of the Creating Change Report for FY23 are:
Environment:
- All brands have reduced footwear, water and energy emissions per pair since the baseline year (FY19) and are making progress towards established physical intensity targets.
- Continued collaboration with the Savory Institute to support regenerative farming methods on sheep farms in Australia. By September 2023, 890,000 acres and over 80 farms were impacted.
- Expanded environmental monitoring programs at production partners, increased disclosure through the use of the Higg FEM module, now Worldly, and continued monitoring of supplier partners through Deckers’ ongoing LCA efforts.
Social:
- As of March 31, 2023, more than 24 percent of employees at the director level and above in the US were Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC). This represents an overall increase of more than 12 percentage points since this target was set in FY20.
- In FY23, 43 percent of all new hires in the US (excluding retail and distribution center employees) identified as BIPOC.
- Through Deckers’ corporate giving program, more than $4.2 million was donated to nonprofit organizations that support the environment, racial and social justice, education, youth empowerment and underserved individuals in their communities.
- Employees volunteered more than 15,000 hours worldwide, demonstrating their passionate commitment to the common good.

“Our Creating Change Report is a reflection on where we have been and where we aspire to be. It serves as a valuable tool to build trust and engage our various stakeholders,” said Thomas Garcia, Chief Administrative Officer. “Our tremendous progress would not be possible without the efforts of so many teams across the organization.”
