CMDsport has published a report on the social-media presence of the top purveyors of sporting goods and sportswear in Spain. The top platform is Facebook, followed by Instagram and Twitter, and on Facebook the top chain, by a large margin, is JD Sports, with 3.47 million followers. JD is the only chain to have broken the milestone of 3 million fans. Second and third place go respectively to Decathlon (2.70 million) and a national fitness specialist, Mundo Fitness (1.07 million). Rounding out the top five are Sprinter (598,234), which is controlled like JD by JD Sports Fashion through the Iberian Sports Retail Group, and Fútbol Emotion (283,214). Together JD and Decathlon – both foreign companies – account for 6.17 million followers, or 68 percent of the total count for the top 21 retailers (9.02 million). Among the buying groups, Intersport reigns supreme, with 115,000 followers. Next come Atmósfera Sport (49,300) and Movimiento Base, the profile for Base Detall Sport (38,234). Decathlon has the distinction of receiving the most profile visitors, with a total 72,239. In this respect JD came in second, with 22,648. The best ratio of profile visits to followers was achieved by 24 Segons Basket, a basketball specialist with only three stores, all in Spain, and a rank of 17th in follower count (23,258). CMDsport attributes this success to tight relations between the company and its local customers.
