Units sold jumped by 210 percent yearly to over 2 million in 2024.
Global smart glasses shipments have increased by 210 percent year-on-year in 2024 to over 2 million units, according to a report by Counterpoint Research, an international research and consultancy company focusing on the high-tech sector.
The company has adopted a relatively narrow definition of the segment. In its research, smart glasses are defined as wearable computing devices that integrate electronic components into traditional eyewear to provide “smart” functionalities, with or without artificial intelligence (AI), but the category excludes glasses with see-through displays and optical systems (AR smart glasses, in other words).

The explosive growth in the smart glasses market was driven by strong demand for Ray-Ban Meta, for which Counterpoint Research has calculated a 60 percent market share in this segment last year. That would put sales of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses at over 1.2 million, in line with recent declarations by EssilorLuxottica and our previous estimates. The research consultancy stressed that the Ray-Ban Meta was the first proper pair of AI smart glasses on the market, as part of its AI functions are incorporated directly into the device.
