The upcoming Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Paris will see a wealth of product releases in terms of athletes’ clothing, footwear and other equipment. The Japanese team has now been kitted out with clothing and footwear by Asics. The brand says it created its collection around three themes: conditioning, sustainability and diversity.
With an eye on the warm temperatures expected during the Games, Asics has set itself the goal of developing a garment that is ideal for athletes preparing for competition. The Podium Jacket is equipped with Asics’ proprietary Actibreeze technology, which was developed for the previous Games and has been well received. This technology reduces humidity inside the garment and provides excellent comfort.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has committed to making the Paris Games the greenest in Olympic history, pledging to halve the event’s carbon footprint compared to the average of previous Summer Games. Asics also supports this goal with its Olympic collection. The company has also set itself the goal of achieving net-zero gas emissions by 2050. Asics’ calculations on the sustainability of the collection show that clothing and accessories are made from more than 70 percent recycled materials. The collection’s shoes’ uppers, which do not include midsoles or outsoles, consist of just over 75 percent recycled materials.
In addition to fit and sustainability of the outfits, Asics wanted to make the Paris 2024 collection inclusive for everyone, regardless of gender. For example, there is a newly designed silhouette that fits people of different ages and gender, while the T-shirts are also available in large sizes to enable stylistic freedom.
