Nike Inc. announced on Aug. 28 that it will reduce its corporate workforce by approximately 1 percent, affecting around 100 jobs primarily in the US and Canada. The move is part of CEO Elliott Hill’s broader effort to reorganize the company’s structure around sports categories rather than gender and age segments.

“This new formation is built to put sport and sport culture back at the center,” Nike stated in a release. Hill aims to create “sport-obsessed teams” across the Nike, Jordan, and Converse brands to drive innovation and deepen consumer connection.

According to Shop Eat Surf, employees were informed in an internal email signed by Hill and other executives that corporate staff in the US and Canada will work remotely until Sept 8 as realignment plans unfold. A company-wide meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10, with new roles to take effect on Sept. 21.

This marks Nike’s third wave of layoffs since early 2024. As of May 31, 2025, Nike employed approximately 77,800 people globally, down from 83,700 the previous year. Hill’s “Win Now” turnaround plan also includes a renewed emphasis on wholesale channels and product development, following revenue declines across regions and brands in FY25.
